Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that Yono’s and dp, An American Brasserie in Albany as well as Coby’s and five other restaurants on SUNY Cobleskill’s campus are pledging to use more locally grown and made products.
“We make a concerted effort to use local products here at our restaurant,” said Dominick Purnomo, owner of dp, An American Brasserie. “Every single day, New York producers are coming to us with something new and consumers in turn are responding in droves.”
Restaurants and chefs participating in the initiative plan to increase their locally grown and made ingredients along with locally produced beverages including wines, beers and ciders, by 10 percent.
Purnomo said his restaurant’s menu already features dozens of state products with nearly 50 New York spirits. He also plans to have all of the restaurant taps pouring local beers and ciders within the next 30 days.
“More and more people are discovering that some of the best foods and beverages in the world are located right here in New York,” said Richard Ball, acting state agriculture commissioner. “Gov. Cuomo’s Pride of NY Pledge is opening up new markets for farmers while helping consumers enjoy the tastes of more New York products in restaurants.”
More than 100 restaurants in the state have signed on to the Pride of NY Pledge. Cuomo said the pledge would help raise awareness and introduce more state-made products in restaurants statewide.
