Culinary Faculty, Students Join “Chefs in the Classroom”

From The Daily Star — Sixth graders at Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School’s Golding Middle School had a taste of the culinary world recently while testing out a new community program called “Chefs in the Classroom,” organizers said.

The initiative — a team effort organized by several local organizations — treated students to a two-day classroom series, which served as an introduction to cooking, according to a media release from Cornell Cooperative Extension. The cooking class was conducted by the Schoharie Valley Farm to School Project through funding from Bassett Research Institute’s “5210 Every Day” healthy lifestyle promotion grant.

Chef Michael Lapi, a SUNY Cobleskill Culinary Arts Instructor, and three of his students are also involved in the program, as is Amy Stuart, food service manager at Cobleskill-Richmondville School.
