SUNY Cobleskill Welcomes 2016 inTENse Conference

Students of the New York State Future Farmers of America’s annual inTENse conference, “an agricultural career experience,” visited SUNY Cobleskill on Friday, capping off their weeklong, statewide tour of agricultural college and career opportunities.

The inTENse conference aims to teach participating high school sophomores about college admissions and the wide variety of agriculture-related career opportunities through hands-on experiences.

The goal, according to FFA, is for the participants to “clearly understand that no matter what sort of career they envision for themselves, they can do it in agriculture — and that we need them to do it in New York agriculture.”

With our far-reaching and pioneering new degree programs like Food Systems & Technology and Fermentation Science, SUNY Cobleskill is a model of that mission statement. On Friday, students learned about food preservation, got a hands-on lesson in livestock health, studied our expansive fish hatchery, and learned about the importance of native pollinators in environmental conservation.

The day ended with a student celebration and recognition ceremony to close out the conference.
