Hometown ECO promoted to Lieutenant
Veteran local NYS Environmental Conservation Officer (ECO) Michael C. Terrell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on April 18, 2019.
After serving NYS since 1990 and serving as an ECO since 1996, Lt. Mike Terrell is currently supervising officers in Columbia, Schoharie, and Otsego Counties. Mike was born and raised in Durham NY, and graduated from Cairo-Durham High School in 1988. He then followed his passion for the outdoors and attended SUNY Cobleskill’s Fish and Wildlife program.
He was first hired by DEC as a fish and wildlife technician in 1990 at the Region 4 sub-office in Stamford, New York. Mike achieved his lifelong dream by becoming a NYS Environmental Conservation Officer in 1996. Lt. Terrell began his career in New York City where he distinguished himself as the lead officer in an investigation into an illegal Atlantic sturgeon poaching ring that spanned from New York to Michigan.
