About Mary: Dr. Mary Guerrant earned her PhD in Applied Social and Community Psychology from North Carolina State University and holds bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Music Performance from Centenary College of Louisiana. Dr. Guerrant enjoys teaching a variety of psychology courses, especially those related to her emphasis on health and community psychology. Her goal as an instructor is to encourage student development within and beyond the classroom by blending individual critical thinking with group discussion and collaborative projects. She looks forward to working with advisees in the spring, providing opportunities for student involvement in research, and is always open to engaging with students outside the classroom. Her primary areas of interest center around issues of diversity (particularly LGBTQ+, immigrant, and racial/ethnic), community engagement, and health equity. She applies these interests through active research and holding leadership roles within professional organizations. In her free time, Dr. Guerrant enjoys playing music and attending concerts, traveling (especially internationally), trying new cuisine, and biking.
