The SUNY Cobleskill Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country Teams Advance at 2014 NEAC Championships

The Fighting Tigers charged towards victory once again, as SUNY Cobleskill’s men’s and women’s cross country teams accomplished impressive feats at the 2014 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships, on Saturday, November 1, 2014; an event hosted by Gallaudet University at Kenilworth Park.

Racing with dominant force, the women’s cross country team advanced to victory, out-distancing the additional 14 teams on the field with a team total of 46 points – a 29 point differential between SUNY Cobleskill and the nearest competitor. This success marks the sixth consecutive league title for the team, a record – setting triumph.

Five Fighting Tigers within the SUNY Cobleskill women’s cross country team placed throughout the 2014 All-NEAC Team, with three team members earning First Team All-League honors. Leading the pack was sophomore Taylor Tommell, Guilderland, N.Y., Guilderland High School, who finished second overall in the 88 runner field by completing the 6000-meter course in a cross country program 6000-meter record time of 22:32.8. Swiftly followed by her teammates, freshman AnnaClaire Piersiak, Staten Island, N.Y., Curtis High School, finished in third place with a time of 22:42.0 and junior Alyssa Alex, Altamont, N.Y., Schalmont High School, who placed seventh in 23:53.3.

Led by freshman Anthony Bouchard, Wantagh, N.Y, Wantagh High School, who placed sixth overall in the 84 runner field by covering the 8000-meter venue in a time of 27:53.4, the SUNY Cobleskill men’s cross country team sailed into second place in a field of 12 teams. Successfully posting a score of 83 points, the team displayed an outstanding performance which locked them into second place for the second year in a row.

Alongside Bouchard, who earned First Team All-NEAC Team honors for his performance, other SUNY Cobleskill men’s cross country members to gain All-NEAC Team honors included junior Dan Fields, Lebanon, Conn., Lyman Memorial High School, who placed ninth in a time of 28:37.9, earning him All-NEAC Second Team honors and freshman Zach Jacobson, Berkshire, N.Y., Newark Valley High School, who finished in 15th place with a time of 29:02.6 to earn Third Team All-NEAC honors.

“We have a tremendous Cross Country tradition and we are most proud of the continued success by our student athletes and coaching staff this past weekend at the NEAC championships,” remarks Kevin McCarthy, Director of Athletics, SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sports and Exercise.

The SUNY Cobleskill men’s and women’s cross country teams will be attending the 2014 ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by Westfield State at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass., on November 8, 2014, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
