New York Times #1 Best Selling Author, Jan Brett, to Visit Campus on The Animal’s Santa Book Tour

SUNY Cobleskill is delighted to welcome New York Times #1 best-selling and beloved author/artist, Jan Brett, to campus on November 28, 2014, 5:00 pm, at the SUNY Cobleskill Bouck Hall Ballroom in celebration of her new book, The Animal’s Santa. With over 39 million books in print, Jan Brett’s exquisite art is universally recognized as being among the finest in children’s books today.

As the very first stop on The Animal’s Santa Book-Tour, the event will open with Jan Brett conducting a 15 minute drawing illustration and presentation at 5:00 pm, which will be followed by an opportunity for guests to meet Jan and have their copy of her book(s) signed. If time does not permit Jan to sign every book, Barnes and Noble will have special signed bookplates featuring Jan’s artwork for all of the extra books.

Hedgie, Jan’s favorite friend from The Mitten and The Hat, will also be at the event. Parents are encouraged to bring their children for a meet-and-greet session with Hedgie and to have their photo with him. Jan’s Tour Bus, wrapped in artwork from The Animal’s Santa, will be parked in SUNY Cobleskill’s Suffolk Circle. Families are welcome to take a photograph next to the bus. In the spirit of the season, we will be accepting donations of mittens and hats to be distributed to local charities.

A selection of Jan Brett’s books, including The Animal’s Santa, are currently available at SUNY Cobleskill’s Barnes and Noble Bookstore, opened Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Fridays, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Attendees who purchase their book(s) in advance are asked to please hold their receipt and bring your copy or copies in a bag to the event. Jan Brett’s books will be available for purchase the day of the event, as well.

In The Animal’s Santa (G.P. Putnam’s Sons), an adorable group of forest animals (including: rabbits, a porcupine, ravens, squirrels, and an artic fox) try to discover the mystery behind treasures left for them each and every Christmas. On his first Christmas Eve, Little Snow asks all of his big brother’s animal friends “who is the animal’s Santa?” And each try to guess. Is the animal’s Santa a badger, polar bear, moose, wolf …? Children will love making their own guesses. Whomever it turns out to be, the Animal’s Santa gets help from some adorable lemming elves adorning Brett’s signature border.
