Campus to Hold the Paramedic Program Winter Symposium

By Danielle Sweetser

Randolph Mantooth, widely recognized for his portrayal of firefighter/paramedic, “Johnny Gage” on NBC’s “Emergency!” will be an honorary keynote speaker at the SUNY Cobleskill Paramedic Program’s Annual Winter Symposium on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Mantooth, an actor and public speaker celebrated throughout television, documentary, theater and film, will deliver an inspirational reminder to the Paramedic Symposium audience that what they do is not so much about the “business” as it is about taking care of people.

The event, which will take place on the SUNY Cobleskill campus, will also include opening remarks from Lee Burns, Director of the NYS DOH Bureau of EMS, and Howard Huth III, Director of the SUNY Cobleskill Paramedic Program. Following opening statements, event participants will participate in various workshops; learning from local and national level speakers on topics relevant to today’s EMS professionals.

The SUNY Cobleskill state-of-the-art paramedic facility provides attendees of the Winter Symposium with the ideal location to participate in workshops in a classroom or hands-on format. All levels of EMS providers – EMT to Paramedics – are encouraged to attend, as classes are designed to be relevant to today’s EMS careers. Seven hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit will be issued for all-day attendance. A certificate will be awarded at the end of the conference.

“We are pleased to again host a Winter Symposium,” said Howard E. Huth, III, Director of the SUNY Cobleskill Paramedic Program. “Our goal is to be able to deliver high-quality continuing education at a reasonable cost in order to support our local EMS community needs. We are honored to have seasoned professionals from the local area and beyond come together to support this endeavor.”

Registration for the SUNY Cobleskill Paramedic Program Annual Winter Symposium is open until January 2. A $60 fee covers five workshops, as well as refreshments and meals throughout the day. The event will begin with registration from 7:00 to 7:45am.
