Dr. Marion Terenzio Appointed as SUNY Cobleskill’s Next President

Dr. Marion Terenzio, current Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Bloomfield College in New Jersey, will become the next president of SUNY Cobleskill. The State University of New York Board of Trustees approved the appointment earlier today. Dr. Terenzio will assume the position July 1.

“Dr. Terenzio has established a formidable reputation as a change leader and higher education professional at Bloomfield College over the last 10 years, and at The Sage Colleges in the Capital Region for decades prior,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “Throughout her career, Dr. Terenzio has emphasized the critical role that higher education can and must play as part of the larger community and as an economic driver, making her ideally suited to join the SUNY leadership team. We are delighted to welcome her back to upstate New York as president of SUNY Cobleskill.”

“I wish to express my appreciation Chancellor Zimpher for offering me this exceptional opportunity to work with the highly talented and dedicated faculty and staff at SUNY Cobleskill.” Dr .Terenzio said, “I know that Cobleskill’s unique contribution within SUNY will grow in concert with the Chancellor’s vision. It will be the POWER of SUNY — Cobleskill style.”

Dr. Terenzio will arrive at SUNY Cobleskill with significant experience in Academic Affairs and Campus Life. Recently, Dr. Terenzio led the efforts to create an urban sustainability program focusing on enhanced social-intellectual development opportunities for impoverished children and providing a community-based economic driver for surrounding communities. Prior, she held several positions at The Sage Colleges over a 26-year period, including associate professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, professor in the Department of Psychology; and vice president for Campus Life. Dr. Terenzio has received numerous awards for her community work, served on professional national, regional, and State association boards, published numerous papers, and is actively engaged in various community and government service groups. She received her baccalaureate degree in Music from Vassar College, a master’s degree in Music Therapy from Michigan State University, a second master’s degree in Community Psychology from the Sage Graduate School of The Sage Colleges, and a Ph.D. in Ecological and Community Psychology from Michigan State University.

Dr. Terenzio will succeed Dr. Debra Thatcher who has spent the past 18 months as the college’s acting president.

“As we welcome Dr. Terenzio to the campus, we also thank Dr. Debra Thatcher for her leadership and tireless efforts to move the college forward during the past eighteen months. This is not an easy task for an acting president,” said Dr. Olive Scott, Chair of the College Council. “Thank you, Deb, for your enthusiasm for SUNY Cobleskill and for what you have been able to accomplish in a short time. An awesome task, well done!”
