SUNY Cobleskill Receives the Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful 2015 Distinguished Service Award

SUNY Cobleskill is a proud recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Service Award by the Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful Board of Directors. On Wednesday, March 25, 2015, eighteen individuals, municipalities and organizations were recognized for their efforts to support sustainable practices and policies. The event was held at Francesca’s Banquet Hall in Ilion, New York.

Committed to sustainability, the College’s efforts serve as an example and community resource by supporting the goals of the Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful and the mission of the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District.

“SUNY Cobleskill is honored to be recognized for our sustainability practices. We are most proud of our contributions in educating students to become leaders in ecology and conservation, and responsible stewards of the environment,” said Acting President Debra H. Thatcher.

Great attention has been paid to the construction of LEED certifiable academic buildings and to the reduction of energy use and its associated costs at SUNY Cobleskill. With focus on the production of alternative energy and an emphasis on the creation of academic courses, programs and experiences that advocate sustainable practices, the College cultivates and encourages environmental advocacy.

Members of the campus community are involved in activities that support and promote sustainability through teaching, club advisement, internship supervision, committee service, food preparation, waste management and facilities management on a daily basis.

“Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful supports the idea that we cannot thrive alone as isolated individuals and that communities and networks of municipalities throughout the larger Mohawk Valley must work together to strengthen our neighborhoods and to bring economic development to the region,” said Robert Albrecht, Chair of the Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful Board of Directors. “Quality of life matters because it attracts talent to our region and it is talented people who invest their lives and resources in our communities. The Distinguished Service Award celebrates that kind of talent and commitment.”
