Early Childhood Program Welcomes New Master Teacher to Child Development Center

The Early Childhood program is pleased to announce Jennifer Golden as the new Master Teacher and Program Administrator of the Effie Bennet-Powe Child Development Center. Golden succeeds Nancy Collins, who worked as Master Teacher for the past eight years.

Golden’s previous work includes employment as a preschool teacher in both private and Head Start Program centers. She is also more than familiar with SUNY Cobleskill’s campus – the past two years she worked in the Center for Academic Success and Excellence. She received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from SUNY Cortland and is New York State Certified Teacher for grades Pre-K through sixth.

She is an active community member who enjoys volunteering: she serves as a Sunday School teacher, and as a member of CREST and the Village of Richmondville Youth Committee. Her children keep her involved in cub- and girl-scouts.

“I am interested in the fields of biology and chemistry and enjoy introducing young children to the wonders of science” said Golden. The following quote from Henry Ford explains her educational philosophy.

“Education is not something to prepare you for life; it is a continuous part of life.”  -Henry Ford

She went on to say, “I believe that we are all learning and growing every day. Children need a loving, safe and cooperative environment in order to take risks, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and celebrate victories. My role as an educator is to support each and every child’s developmental steps through open communication with the child’s families.”

Students in the Early Childhood programs work alongside the Master Teacher in the Effie Bennet-Powe Child Development Center as a lab to gain hands-on experience as part of the “Real Life. Real Learning.” philosophy of SUNY Cobleskill. The Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and features a large classroom, gym and outdoor play area. Says Golden, “we are off to an amazing start [this semester]!”
