SUNY Cobleskill Students Show Research at Northeast Honors Conference

Three SUNY Cobleskill Honors Program students presented their research at the Northeast Regional Honors Conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts over two days on April 2 and 3, along with more than 600 honors students from across the Northeast. This is the first year that SUNY Cobleskill students have participated in the conference.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Migrations”. SUNY Cobleskill’s Paula McConnell, an Agricultural Business major, presented a research paper titled, “SSA Africa, Men’s Migration and Women Farmers: An Opportunity for Cultural Change,” which she worked on with Associate Professor of Agriculture and Food Management Jason Evans. Mary Greagan, Fisheries and Wildlife major, led a roundtable discussion titled, “The migratory evolution of steel cable restraints and snares along with their impact on humans through time,” which she developed with Assistant Professor of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Environmental Science Amy Quinn. Rachel Lee, Animal Science major, presented her poster, “For the Love of Riley” featuring the results of her research on the use of pets to increase the development of empathy in young children. Rachel worked with Professor of Early Childhood & Psychology Gayle Wentworth on her project.

During the conference, the students had the opportunity to tour the MIT and Harvard campuses as well as the Freedom Trail and the Harvard Museum of Natural History.
