Woodsmen Compete at SUNY Cobleskill

The day after her Inauguration as SUNY Cobleskill’s twelfth President, Dr. Marion A. Terenzio made the ceremonial first cut to open the 8th annual intercollegiate Woodsmen Team Competition at SUNY Cobleskill.

The College’s Woodsmen Club competed against teams from Paul Smith’s College, Finger Lakes Community College, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Alfred University, Morrisville State College, Pennsylvania State University and the SUNY-ESF Ranger School in a series of events that demonstrate speed and precision in traditional lumberjack sports.

The Cobleskill men’s team took fourth place overall out of 10 teams, with Paul Smith’s College taking first place, Alfred State second place and SUNY ESF third place. Finger Lakes Community College placed first out of nine teams in the mixed Jack & Jill category, with Paul Smith’s in second and Alfred in third. Of two teams in the Women’s category, Paul Smith’s took first place and SUNY ESF took second.

The members of SUNY Cobleskill’s Woodsmen Club have worked hard in recent years to build a reputation in this demanding and growing sport. The 35 student members, both men and women from various majors, practice four days a week under the guidance of SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen alumni. They participate in competitions and demonstrations throughout the Northeast.
