Students Aim to Save Fish, Suppress Pest

The Daily Star, 07/28/16 — Students and faculty at SUNY Cobleskill are working to improve the environment this summer by trying to bolster one creature and weaken another, officials said.

The group recently went to Schoharie County to take part in the widespread and long-term effort to eliminate the hemlock woolly adelgid, or HWA, an invasive insect that is killing eastern Hemlocks across the eastern United States.

Another group of students is working to return the lake whitefish population of Otsego Lake to its former glory, according to a press release from the college.
