Four Fighting Tigers Receive NEAC Awards

TommellFemale Runner of the Week: Taylor Tommell

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced today that SUNY Cobleskill senior Taylor Tommell has been named the league’s Female Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 4. This marks the eighth time in her career that Tommell has received this award.

Running against a Division I field Tommell placed 38th overall to pace the Fighting Tigers to a sixth place finish with a team score of 182 points at the 2016 Harry Lang Invitational hosted by Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, on Saturday by covering the hilly 5000-meter course in a time of 20:19.5.

VwazaMen’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week: Emile Vwaza

SUNY Cobleskill freshman forward Emile Vwaza was named the NEAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Vwaza assisted on both of the Fighting Tigers goals in a 2-1 victory over Southern Vermont College at Applejack Stadium in Manchester, Vermont, helping Cobleskill end a 31-game losing streak that spanned nearly two years. With the victory, the team’s overall record currently stands at 1-1 to begin the campaign.

WilsonGolfer of the Week: Ian Wilson

SUNY Cobleskill senior Ian Wilson was named the league’s Golfer of the Week. Wilson led the SUNY Cobleskill men’s golf team to an eighth place finish in a 12-team field at the 17th Annual SLU Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence University at the Saints’ par 72/6698 yard Oliver D. Appleton Golf in Canton, New York.

Wilson posted rounds of 73 and 75 to place second overall with a score of four-over par 148 versus the 61-player field. As a team, the Fighting Tigers fired rounds of 341 and 319 for a total score of 84-over par 660.

On Thursday, Wilson opened the year with a round of seven-par 79 to tie for fourth in a field of 44 players as the Fighting Tigers placed fourth in a field of nine teams at the 2016 JSC Invitational hosted by the Badgers of Johnson State College at the par 72/6282 yard Rocky Ridge Golf Club in St. Georges, Vermont, with a team total of 335.

clarkWomen’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Gabby Clark

SUNY Cobleskill senior libero Gabby Clark was named the NEAC Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Clark helped lead the Fighting Tigers to the tournament championship of the 2016 Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts, over the weekend averaging 6.09 digs per set and 0.33 blocks per set for the tournament as Cobleskill defeated host Elms, Albertus Magnus College, and York College of New York to take the title and open the season with a perfect 3-0 overall record.
