Western Equestrian Team wins big at first show of the season

The SUNY Cobleskill Western Equestrian team had an outstanding weekend at their first show of the season. Rebecca Guerrera placed third in the horse knowledge exam out of 50 other collegiate students, earning a $100 scholarship. Morgan O’Sullivan was the Champion rider of the highest division in the collegiate cup challenge. This challenge was located at the state fair grounds with over 400 horses present. Morgan competed against riders from Keuka, Morrisville, Albany, Colgate, RIT, Oswego, Brockport, Cazenovia, Alfred State, and Alfred University. She will be receiving a trophy and a scholarship for winning this prestigious event.

Our western equestrian program will also receive a trophy for providing six of our finest horses to be used in the competition, one of whom was born, raised, and trained under professor Leah Digioia’s guidance by the students at SUNY Cobleskill. Ashlynne Ratner, Karly Brandimarte, and Amanda Pelosi received honorable mention. Several students of the team gave up their time to spend the day helping to take care of the six horses as well as welcoming prospectives students at the booth showcasing SUNY Cobleskill’s equestrian programs and teams.
