SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen Rack Up Wins

The SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen Club is feeling energized after a run of big wins in the past few weeks.

On Oct. 29 in Barneveld, SUNY Cobleskill senior and Woodsmen Club member Alexis Halstead took first place in the Women’s Overall competition in the Hud-Son Be the Boss Timbersports competition.

Seven members of the SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen team competed in the second annual Be the Boss competition against about 30 other students from places like Paul Smith College and SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry. The event was co-hosted by Professional STIHL Timbersports Athlete Nathan Waterfield.

Halstead was named the STIHL Timbersports national women’s champion in May. In addition to being a member of the SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen Club, she competes professionally with the Axe Women Loggers of Maine.

The SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen scored more victories last weekend in SUNY ESF’s Lumberjack Roundup, where their Jack & Jill team took first place and a handful of competitors placed first in various individual events. In all, four teams from SUNY Cobleskill competed in the competition: two men’s teams, one women’s team and the Jack & Jill team.

The SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen Club will host a Spring Meet at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, March 11, 2017, beginning at 8 a.m. Teams from across the northeast will be competing.
