The SUNY Cobleskill Western Equestrian Team finished the fall semester in first place among regional riding teams after winning back-to-back Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2 Region 3 shows at Morrisville State College on Saturday. This is the first time in the history of the IHSA that SUNY Cobleskill has led the region in points, as well as the first time the team has swept the Morrisville events.

The Fighting Tigers team scored a total of 59 points in both shows. That brings their 2016 point total to 167, leading all other teams in Region 3.

Junior Morgan O’Sullivan led the team with a win in Open Western Horsemanship and third place in Open Reigning in the first show and wins in both events in the second show. She won High Point Rider Honors in both shows. With those wins, O’Sullivan is currently the top-ranked rider in Region 3, leading her nearest competitor by more than 25 points. If she holds on to the lead, she will automatically advance to the IHSA National Championships in May.

Senior Emily McLaughlin also scored a win for SUNY Cobleskill in Advanced Western Horsemanship and sophomore Wyatt Morley won in Intermediate Horsemanship, both in the first show. In the second show, Courtney Preston won in Advanced Western Horsemanship and junior Ashley Foland won in Intermediate Horsemanship.

SUNY Cobleskill will return to Morrisville on February 19 for another Zone 2 Region 3 competition hosted by Morrisville State College.
