SUNY Cobleskill Student Finds Sweet Success In Popcorn

The Hartford Courant — Move over Orville Redenbacher. There’s a new popcorn grower in town and for the past few years he’s been working hard to produce some of the best locally-grown popcorn in Connecticut.

Daniel Dzen, 21, of South Windsor, is probably best known for his last name, the well-known farming family that invites live reindeer to hunker down at their Christmas tree farm during the holiday season.

A Polish immigrant, Dzen’s great grandfather settled in South Windsor and started farming in the late 1930s. Over the years, the family grew tobacco, potatoes, a variety of small fruits and berries, and, of course, Christmas trees. And like his grandfather and father before him, Daniel Dzen has always had an interest in continuing the agricultural tradition.
