Early this year, Ryan Binas set off across the country to follow his dream.
The 2015 SUNY Cobleskill graduate was hired by Ripken Baseball to travel from city to city teaching young people the fundamentals of the game in the 2017 Chevy Youth Baseball Clinics tour.
Binas left for Texas in February, expecting to be on the road for at least four or five months, possibly up to nine. In the first two months, they traveled to more than 20 cities to provide free instructional baseball clinics. At each stop, they give kids an opportunity to practice their hitting, pitching, and fielding with Ripken Baseball instructors like Binas, as well as current and former Major League Baseball players.
Since graduating with his associate degree in Business Administration in 2015, Binas has been pursuing a career in professional baseball. He worked for a cybermetric scouting company and the Sacramento River Cats before landing the Ripken Baseball job through MLB’s annual Winter Meeting in 2016.
“This is a great opportunity to follow my dream,” he said. “I’m learning as much as I can and hopefully I can apply it to keep working my way up the ladder.”
