On Wednesday, April 4 at 7:01 pm EST, bells across the United States will toll 39 times.
Churches, college campuses, and other institutions will honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was assassinated 50 years ago on that date, with this profound gesture. The brilliant and eloquent King was 39 years old when he was shot in Memphis, Tennessee. Governor Andrew Cuomo has asked that all of the SUNY schools participate in the tribute, and SUNY Cobleskill is proud to be a part of this solemn memorial.
In the words of the King Family, “This is a simple, yet meaningful way for our nation to acknowledge the loss but more importantly the great contributions Dr. King gave to the world stage.” To read more about this collaborative tribute, visit this site: https://mlk50.sitewrench.com/50th-anniversary-commemoration
