Fiber Sorting and Grading Certification Course, Offered by Office of Professional and Continuing Education, Profiled in “Alpacas Magazine”

SUNY Cobleskill is known for many firsts. Here is one you may not know: the College is home to the only college or university-based certification course in fiber sorting and grading. Since its inception in 2016, demand and interest have been building steadily. The course is offered by the Office of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) and has already certified participants from across North America.

Wini Labrecque, course instructor, has contributed a profile of the course this spring that is included in a recent edition of “Alpacas Magazine.” The official journal of the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association publishes three times annually. SUNY Cobleskill is included in the “Herdsire 2019 edition” — AM-Volume30-Number1-SGC (1)(2.

From the profile: “Successful completion of all three parts of the program awards the participant the SUNY Certificate as a Master Sorter/Grader. Those holding this certification are mainly interested in developing a business sorting for other fiber-bearing livestock owners or fiber purchasers. Showing that one has gone through this extensive program shows potential customers the individual has the knowledge base to help the customer get their fiber into production and end product.”

Be sure to read Labrecque’s feature in-full. A link is included above.
