The SUNY Cobleskill duo of Tristen Bauer and Drew Tiano wrapped up their first appearance in the Yeti FLW College Fishing National Championship last week, with a top-40 finish – good for tops among teams representing SUNY institutions, and a literal boatload of memories. The tandem qualified for the national tournament after finishing third in an 80-team field 11 months ago at the 2018 FLW Yeti College fishing tournament on Cayuga Lake. Bauer and Tiano also ended the competition as the best team (of six) from the NY-NJ-CT tri-state area.

“We were just hoping to make SUNY Cobleskill proud,” said Bauer, after the tournament. Bauer served as Vice President of the College’ Bass Fishing Club and Team in 2018-2019. Tiano’s lead-up to the national championship was highlighted by winning the Costa FLW series tournament at Thousand Islands last September. For that victory, Tiano won a $600 cash award, as well as a new boat.

The next event on the summer docket for SUNY Cobleskill’s anglers is the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series at St. Lawrence River presented by Bass Pro Shops event, June 19-21. SUNY Cobleskill wishes all the best to competing team and club members later this month, as well as in tournaments throughout the summer and fall.
