Nutrien Ag Solutions Gifts $100,000 to SUNY Cobleskill for Scholarships and Program Support in Plant Science

Nutrien Ag Solutions, the world’s largest provider of crop nutrient and protection products and services, has presented a gift of $100,000 to the SUNY Cobleskill Foundation. The gift will provide scholarship opportunities to students enrolled in the College’s Plant Science program and support experiential course programming.

“SUNY Cobleskill students are so successful in the agriculture industry primarily because of the hands-on, practical, and purposeful training with an emphasis on getting the job done,” said Steve Harrison, Northeast Division Manager at Nutrien Ag Solutions. “From an educational standpoint, they have a good base and match many of our end goals.”

“Nine of our current employees are SUNY Cobleskill alumni, and all come to mind as good workers with good work ethics. They understand our mission which is very well aligned with SUNY Cobleskill, and both organizations are on the same page when it comes to developing the next generation of the agricultural workforce,” Harrison continued.

“Nutrien’s generous support provides our students with a tremendous opportunity to harness their full potential while earning their Cobleskill degree,” said Dr. Marion Terenzio, President of SUNY Cobleskill. “We are indeed grateful for this investment in our shared future as agriculture becomes increasingly important for a growing world population. This field demands more qualified graduates than ever before, and we are so pleased to have Nutrien partner with us in meeting this need.”

One of the most experienced agriculture solutions suppliers in the country, Nutrien Ag Solutions was established in 2018 through the merger of PotashCorp and Agrium, and the company can trace its roots to its predecessors that began operating as early as 1859. PotashCorp was the world’s largest potash producer and the third largest producer of nitrogen phosphate, three primary crop nutrients used to produce fertilizer. Agrium was a major retail supplier of agricultural products and services to North America, South America, and Australia.

SUNY Cobleskill’s Plant Science department comprises bachelor’s and associate degree tracks in Plant Science, Landscape Contracting, Sustainable Crop Production, Turfgrass Management, and Cannabis Science. Students learn through hands-on experience with the latest equipment in our greenhouses, gardens, and farm.
