Seniors Kelsey Bowers and Kate Riordan Honored with 2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence

SUNY Cobleskill seniors Kelsey Bowers and Kate Riordan were honored with 2023 Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence (CASE) as part of SUNY’s annual spring recognition showcase. CASE recognizes students for their outstanding achievements throughout their SUNY experience in areas including academics, leadership, campus involvement, community service, and the arts.

Kelsey Bowers, from Castorland, N.Y., has maintained an overall 3.93 GPA throughout her college career, which includes an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences: Social Sciences that she earned concurrently with her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Outside of her studies, Kelsey serves as a Teaching Assistant and Senior Resident Assistant. She further extends her commitment to enhancing the campus experience as a member of the Campus Engagement Board and as an Orientation Leader. She currently serves as president of the Its On Us Chapter at SUNY Cobleskill, part of a nationwide effort to end campus sexual assault.

A dual major in Fisheries & Aquaculture and Wildlife Management, Kate Riordan has maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA throughout her four years of study in arguably two of SUNY Cobleskill’s most rigorous academic programs. Kate has long served as a peer tutor, starting in 2020 and continuing through today, for a wide variety of courses within her majors, including Botany, Natural History of the Vertebrates, Wildlife Management, and Woody Plant Materials. She is an active member of several wildlife-focused student clubs on campus and serves as secretary for the student chapter of the American Fisheries Society. She is originally from Fort Ann, N.Y.

The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was created in 1997. It is the highest honor SUNY bestows upon students by SUNY. Systemwide, 193 SUNY students from 63 campuses were honored with 2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence.
