Dr. Ian M. MacDonald Appointed as Dean of the Faculty

SUNY Cobleskill announces the appointment of Dr. Ian M. MacDonald as its Dean of the Faculty beginning in the Fall 2024 semester. Dr. MacDonald comes to Cobleskill from The College of Saint Rose, where he has served as Dean of the School of Mathematics and Sciences since 2018, overseeing eleven departments housing 18 diverse undergraduate programs and four graduate programs. He was also a professor at Saint Rose for many years, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Communications and Networking, Bioinformatics, and Discrete Mathematics.

Dr. MacDonald will support senior academic administrators and the faculty in ensuring sustainable programs, identifying and encouraging new program implementation, and fostering alternative program delivery methods through which our students and campus will thrive. He will also oversee a full suite of academic resources that align with student learning needs and academic facilities that enhance learning experiences, reinforcing the College’s mission and aspirational goals as a premier institution of Agriculture and Technology grounded in a strong liberal arts paradigm.

“Dr. MacDonald will be a transformational academic leader for us, and it will be through his guidance and expertise that we will expand our degree, certificate, and microcredential programs to meet the evolving needs of students while developing new generations of leaders across the fields of agriculture and technology,” said Dr. Marion Terenzio, President. “We are thrilled that he is joining us as Dean of the Faculty, and I am confident that the College will continue to thrive and flourish with him leading our faculty.”

“Dr. MacDonald’s history of developing and leading successful higher education programs, fostering transdisciplinary academic and industry collaboration, and emphasizing the value of undergraduate research makes him an ideal faculty leader for SUNY Cobleskill,” said Dr. Darcy Medica, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “With his leadership, we will build on our existing academic enterprise to offer new and innovative opportunities for our students and faculty across all academic programs to excel.”

Dr. MacDonald holds a Doctorate in Computer Science from the University at Albany as well as a Bachelor of Science (Siena College) and Master of Science (University at Albany) in Computer Science.
