A challenge became an exercise in teamwork and creativity as SUNY Cobleskill’s Woodsmen Club hosted their spring meet on Saturday, April 5, despite a rainy forecast that forced a last-minute venue change. Originally set to take place outdoors, the event had to be reimagined in just 48 hours, as the Club worked quickly with College partners to move the event under the cover of a campus pole barn.
The meet started with a ceremonial first cut led by SUNY Cobleskill President Marion Terenzio and Woodsmen Club President Korey Evarts, marking the official start. Despite the steady rain, spirits remained high as competitors dove into a series of traditional timber sporting events.
The Woodsmen Club thanked Facilities Management and Warehouse staff who cleared their new barn to shelter the events and spectators, the Athletics department whose staff members worked side by side with students to manage cleanup between events, and University Police for crowd management.
Evarts and Alyssa Healy were singled out by club advisors for their leadership in pulling off the event. With help from their teammates and support from staff and sponsors, they created an experience that visiting teams praised.
